Amazingly, this seems to have been recorded without a click track, but with a rock-solid tempo. Hats off to drummer Derrick McKenzie. It’s only from the post-chorus onwards that there is a slight variation and increase in tempo, but overall it always stays very close to 120 bpm.
mm. 8, 20, 52, 56 & 64 The intro and verse Rhodes pattern has a variation that is seemingly randomly occurring five times throughout the song, where the top note is a D instead of C, making it a Baug7♯9 chord.
The chords in the chorus are likewise randomly varied, with the Rhodes sometimes playing C♯m7/G♯ instead of G♯m7 and Amaj7/B instead of B7.
The post-chorus doesn’t really have more harmonic information other than the bassline and the vocals, but the standard chorus chords are implied.
Occasionally, the guitar plays an F♯ – a perfect fifth – over the Baug7♭9 in the verses and never an augmented fifth. Mostly, it omits either, though.
